On August 2, First Church teams working under the supervision of the United Methodist Committee on Relief helped with Hurricane Sandy recovery efforts. Team one (Brenda and Ed Kelley, Janet Heaney, and Val Geasor) hauled and assembled bunk beds to help make the vacant Lindenhurst UMC parsonage into a dormatory for out-of-area recovery workers. Team two (Dave Burglund, Peter Tang, Rich Hasloecher, Jeanna and David Heldt, and Pastor Jim) worked with a homeowner in Seaford. The highlight for team two was cutting up and removing an old 16-foot fiberglass boat with a New Jersey registration that ended up in the homeowner's yard when the surge went out!
